NOTES FROM THE EDITOR

Marketing for the future

They say that hitting a baseball is more about prediction than reaction. You're supposed to hit to the place where the ball will be in he future.

I know nothing about baseball, but I know that an educated prediction is a part of a successful outcome.

Another element is experience.

This month will mark 10 years from the day I lost everything to a house fire. And watching the devastating fires in LA brings me back to the first weeks of surviving one of the most destructive events of my life.

This lived experience makes me sort of an "expert" of the post-fire journey, if you could call it that. This event was also the reason I decided to work with therapists in the first place.

But today, I want to share with you my view on helping those who are going through this devastation right now. Many of us can imagine the future toll that this loss will take on these people's mental health.

The noble urge for many therapists at this point is to offer free counseling immediately. I see posts on social media letting victims and first responders know where they can get free counseling.

Unfortunately, my personal experience tells me that not many people will take you up on this at this time. Right now, people are trying to survive and fight the immediate danger of the fire still spreading.

And while it's important to be available as a therapist now, it will be more important to offer help in the months and even years to come. I recorded this πŸ‘‡ video to explain exactly what I mean by that and offer an actionable step you can take today.

But besides the suggestions in this video, making yourself easily findable for people who will need your help in the future, is the most effective way to support them.

In a situation like this, offering help at the right time can be more valuable than offering free help immediately.

And now to the news...

P.S. Whether you're a therapist or a fire victim, and would like to talk to me about this for insight or support, just hit reply. I always respond.
